How Bebo Works
A complete tour of Bebo, from creating an account to earning from what you make.
1. Creating your account
Sign up with an email address, choose a display name and a password, and confirm your email. Your display name is what other members see. You do not need to give a phone number, and you can delete your account at any time from Settings.
2. Your profile
Your profile is the centre of Bebo. It is made of modules — About me, Photos, Blog, Whiteboard, Top Friends, Widgets, Comments — that you can reorder and hide.
Skins. A skin is a complete visual theme: background, header art, module headers and footers. Skins are image based, at the original Bebo sizes (760 x 40 top header, 760 x 375 top background, 375 x 44 module headers, 375 x 50 module footers). Apply one from the Skin Store or build your own in the Skin Studio and share it with everyone.
Poster. A wide image across the top of your profile, which you drag to position and resize until it sits exactly where you want it.
Widgets. Music players, countdowns, visitor counters, quizzes, polls, mood, trophies, guestbooks and a custom HTML module.
3. Friends and connections
Send a buddy request, and once it is accepted you can message, comment, tag and share. Top Friends puts your closest people at the top of your profile. Nudges let you poke a friend you have not heard from. Friendversaries mark the day you connected.
4. Sharing
Bulletins are short posts with text, photos, videos or links, and they support reactions, threaded comments and audience controls.
Photos live in albums, with multi-photo posts laid out like a collage and swipeable galleries on phones.
Reels are short vertical videos, converted automatically so they play smoothly on any device.
Blogs are long-form entries with their own comment threads and permalinks.
5. Messages
Direct messages and group chats live in one inbox. You get read receipts, typing indicators, reactions, replies, photo and voice messages, and voice or video calls built straight into the browser.
6. Discover
Discover collects everything beyond your own circle: news with categories and sources you follow, schools and alumni, bands, films, groups, pages, events, jobs, the marketplace, the arcade and dating.
7. Dating
An optional, separate space. You set preferences, browse suggestions with a compatibility score, and if you both like each other you can add each other as buddies and carry the conversation into normal Bebo messages.
8. Earning on Bebo
If you turn on monetisation, you can lock any bulletin, photo, reel or blog behind a one-off payment. Locked media is stored privately and is never served to anyone who has not paid. Payments are taken by card, your earnings appear in your ledger, and you withdraw to your own bank account.
9. Advertising
Anyone can buy an advert from the ads page. You set the destination, the creative and the budget, pay by card, and a moderator reviews it. Approved adverts appear in timelines marked Sponsored, and you can see impressions, clicks and click-through rate day by day.
10. On your phone
Bebo works in any mobile browser, can be installed to your home screen, and there is a native Android app you can download from the download page. An iPhone app is on the way through the App Store.
