Help: Messages, Group Chats and Calls
Everything on Bebo that involves talking to someone.
One inbox
Direct messages and group chats live in the same inbox. There are no separate tabs — conversations are listed newest first, with unread ones marked.
Starting a conversation
Open someone's profile and choose Message. You can also start from a comment, a photo or a search result. Anyone you have blocked, or who has blocked you, cannot appear here.
Group chats
Select the new group button at the top of the inbox, search for the buddies you want, name the chat, and create it. You are taken straight into the conversation. Anyone in the group can add people unless the creator turns that off.
What you can send
Text, photos, videos, voice notes, links with previews, and reactions on any individual message. Long-press or right-click a message to reply to it directly, copy it, or delete it. Swiping a conversation deletes it from your list.
Read receipts and typing
A small mark shows when your message has been delivered and when it has been read, and you can see when the other person is typing. Read receipts can be turned off in Settings; turning them off also hides other people's from you.
Voice and video calls
Select the call button in any conversation. Calls run directly in the browser, so nothing needs installing. You can mute, switch camera, apply a filter or a voice effect, and share your screen on desktop. Calls are peer to peer where the network allows it.
Notifications
Messages can notify you on the web, on your phone through the installed app, and by email if you enable it. Configure each channel separately in Settings.
Blocking and leaving
Blocking from within a conversation removes it from your inbox and stops any further contact. Leaving a group chat removes you from it without notifying everyone individually.
Problems
If a message will not send, check your connection and try again — nothing is lost, and the message stays in the box. If a call has no sound, check that the browser has microphone permission and that the correct device is selected in the call settings menu.
